I want to be a 3D Printing Noob ?!?

I really, really want to be a 3D Printing Noob. Not that I want to stay one. I just want to get started on 3D Printing. Or rather, I would like to have my own 3D printer.

I have had a few tries (2) at 3D printing items, at publicly available printers, but it would be really, really nice to have my own 3D printer. That is what this blog will be about. How to find and buy the right 3D printer (for me) with the funds I have available.

anet a8This blog will be my journey towards getting a printer, and then getting to know it, as well as finding the right tools, both hardware and software that I need for 3D printing projects.

I am currently looking at a printing similar to the one to the right of your screen, an Anet A8, or a similar i3 clone.

They can be bought from China at around USD 150, plus perhaps Postage and customs tax.

As I am living in Denmark, an easier option is to buy from a European based seller. It will carry a higher price, and usually you dont get free postage, but there will be no costums tax.

I am hoping to post a blog entry about once a week. Here in the beginning it will most likely be posts about getting the right software in place: 3D modelling and a slicer and perhaps other pieces of software.

I do have access to a few 3D printers through a FabLab that has an open day once a week. As it is run as a public FabLab (one of the innovation schemes run by our town council) it is free to use the machines in the FabLab, you just have to pay for the materials you use.

The FabLab also has a Laser Cutter, a CNC machine and a few other tools. I am hoping to post blogs about some of these tools as well.

Hope to see you in my next blog entry!
